Southern Hills enrolments continue to rise despite staff shortages in administration

’s school in Bedfordale has started the year with a record year of new enrolments and enrolment enquiries.  Planning and grant applications are underway for additional classrooms to accommodate the substantial growth in the college.

Despite the continued growth (in 2018, Southern Hills had just over 200 students) the Administration of the College has reduced significantly due to vaccination mandates, retirements and family commitments. As such, Mrs Wendy Burgess and Dr Andre Janse Van Rensburg remain the two constants in the flurry of enrolment enquiries that hit the Southern Hills email ‘Inbox’ and the main phone lines each day.

How do you survive, Dr Andre?

“I don’t! Strong coffee and the occasional banter with staff hurrying from one place to another make this an enjoyable Christian environment to work in.  I would not say ‘no’ to another pair of hands, though!”

What about you, Wendy?

“I’ve loved joining Southern Hills and all the daily comings-and-goings of students and staff in our College. There is a lot of adrenaline each day, especially in the mornings! But it’s wonderful to provide a high level of service to our students and families.”

College Principal Mr Paul Beacham said this week that his enrolment staff have been doing a fine job and are looking forward to the upcoming holidays.

“It’s amazing how this team keeps working so hard despite all of the changes that they have been confronted with. I am also very thankful for our COVID action team and Mrs Rachael Hasluck who, as Chaplain to our students, has been very supportive but also a caring professional for our staff during these last few months as well.” Today there is an advertisement on the Southern Hills Facebook page directing interested applicants to the ‘Working With Us’ page to apply for positions at the College. If you know of friends or family who are keen to join the Southern Hills team, please direct them to the Working With Us page on the website
