Dr Thelma Perso Celebrates Retirement After 43 Years In Education!

A group of approximately 50 people gathered together last week to celebrate the educational career of ’s outgoing Chief Education Officer (CEdO) Dr Thelma Perso, who will be retiring from full-time work at the end of the 2022 school year.

Colleagues from far and wide descended upon Swan Christian College’s Maali Room for sumptuous morsels created by Swan’s hospitality team led by Chef Rob Do Carmo. Speeches from husband Mr Ross Prout, Mr Andrew Creelman, and the duo of Charmaine and David Ladner began the night, followed by Mrs Antoniette Wilson, Mrs Anna Guy, Mr Mike Pitman, and Dr Martin Bent.

’s Board Chair Mr Rob Edkins teamed up with Board Member Mrs Shelley Forbes to deliver a message from the Board, with the final words of the night coming from ’s Chief Executive Officer Dr Graeme Cross, who acknowledged the excellent work that Dr Thelma Perso has contributed to during her time with the organisation.

Dr Thelma Perso thanked the gathered guests, some of whom had travelled long distances to be at the prestigious occasion and her colleagues who had made her workplace enjoyable fruitful, and at times ‘just like heaven’.

Even after more than forty years of service (often at the very highest positions in education across Australia) it is clear that Dr Thelma Perso is still at the top of her game. In this edition of News, the Data Analysis Workshop and the School Improvement and Effectiveness Framework (SIEF) publication highlight her immense talent and the work she is doing to improve the quality of education in our schools.

Dr Gregg Weaver will be taking on the role of Chief Education Officer for in 2023, with Dr Perso continuing with in a consultant capacity following her retirement.
